abstract

insulin-like growth factor-i (igf-1) is a peptide hormone which is similar in molecular structure to insulin and it is located on chromosome 5 in cattle. since the igf-1 plays an important role in the growth and development of multiple tissues, the purpose of current study was to identify the igf-1 gene polymorphism in sistani beef cattle. a total of 53 sistani beef cattle (one year) were randomly selected and blood samples were drawn from the cervical vein. dna was extracted from the whole blood with modified salting-out method. a 249 bp length fragment in exon 1 of igf-1 gene was amplified by polymorphism chain reaction by using specific primer pairs. genotyping of each sample was performed by using restriction enzyme snabi and electrophoresed on 2% agarose gel. the results revealed the existence of two alleles a and b for the examined locus with the frequencies of 0.25 and 0.75, respectively. three different genotypic variants including aa, ab and bb were identified with genotypic frequencies of 0.057, 0.396 and 0.547, respectively. chi square test based on observed and expected frequencies of different genotypic variants of  the exon 1 of igf-1 gene in sistani cattle population showed that deviation from hardy-weinberg equilibrium was not significant. analysis associate of the studied genotypes and growth related traits showed significant effects between aa and ab genotypes (p

fabp4 gene polymorphism in sistani and dashtiari cattle and its association with growth traits in sistani cattle

the polymorphism in exon three of fabp4 gene and its association with growth traits of 45 sistani (n=30) and dashtiari (n=15) cattle were investigated. dna extraction from the whole blood was performed and its quality was determined by electrophoresis of one percent agarose gel. animal genotypes were determined based on polymerase chain reaction (pcr) products and their band size electrophorese...

Single nucleotide polymorphism of the lactoferrin gene and its association with milk production and reproduction traits in Iranian Holstein cattle

Bovine lactoferrin (LTF) is a member of the transferrin family of iron-binding proteins. This protein is present in a wide variety of biological fluids and shows important physiological functions in body. In this study, 404 blood samples were collected from Holstein dairy farms in Iran. A 301 bp fragment of intron 6 in bovine LTF gene was amplified and the animals were genotyped using polymeras...

Polymorphism of the b-Lactoglobulin Gene and Its Association with Milk Production Traits in Iranian Najdi Cattle

The objective of this study was to determine the polymorphism of bovine β-lactoglobulin (β-LG) gene and its association with milk production traits in Iranian Najdi cattle. Blood samples were collected from 80 Najdi cattle from the Najdi cattle breeding station located in Shoshtar, Khuzestan. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) techniqus were used...

Lack of Association between Somatotropin Receptor Gene Polymorphism and Birth Weight of Iranian Indigenous Sistani Cattle

The objective of the present study was to determine polymorphism within the promoter region of somatotropin receptor genes in indigenous Sistani cattle (Bos indicus) and associations between this polymorphism and breeding value of birth weight. The pedigree structure was included by considering 1173 animals with 600 progeny birth weight data obtained from a Zhark breeding station in Sistan and ...
